Classic bookcase - Quarter sawn red oak

Classic bookcase - Quarter sawn red oak

The teenage daughter asks ?Daddy, can you please build me a bookcase? I need somewhere to put all my books.?
Never built anything like that before and said “Of course”.

She then went through my list of plans that I had and picked out a specific plan.
(I?ll post a link to some of these plans at the bottom)

Next question was ?What type of wood??

She went with me to the lumber yard and picked out some Brazilian Cherry. I bought a bunch of 8/4 10”wide boards and went to the shop.
I figured I?d just re-saw the boards like I always do but WOW, is that stuff hard and dense.

I?d just tuned up the Delta 14? that has a riser block. Fresh re-saw wide blade and all.
I knew this wood was dense but HOLY COW!! I was waiting for the sparks to start flying..

The Delta just didn?t have the horsepower to re-saw jatoba. Time to move to her next choice of wood.
Quarter-sawn red oak.
The instructions on the plan were really simple and the unit has ?Knock-Down? hardware for easy assembly and moving.

I changed the molding at the top from a basic cove to a more detailed edge.
After several coats of wipe-on poly, it now sits in her room and I have a happy, smiling daughter.

One good thing about the project was it proved I needed a bigger, better bandsaw. Looks like one will be on the horizon shortly.

In regards to the project plans, I?ve shared some publicly published projects with others recently and because there are still requests, I decided to put some of them on a FTP server.
I?ll keep the link up for a couple days.

The plan for this bookcase is under the bookcase folder and it?s titled ?Classic bookcase plan?.

This is no scam or virus B.S.
I just got sick of paying for plans and finally found a worthy source. I copied the files to share with others. Promise.
This is MY SERVER….Not a link to an unknown…
