Ten Stars~!!
Gentle, quiet, smooth, with a crisp clean cut.
I got this cutter at a discount, but it’s a Whiteside right? So it had to be decent.
I liked the way it looked the cutters are canted off at a high shearing angle not the usual almost flat angle of other panel raisers I own. It looks like a Maserati and it is.
The shank is generous. The cutter stands tall in the collet allowing me to lower the router well below the shaft lock mechanism. At first I wondered if the long shank was a bad idea on such a large cutter because of the moment arm of the big cutter. I was mistaken.
The high shear angle of the three carbide cutters, slice the stock away in a smooth, soft, gentle buzzing sound that is so smooth and gentle that not only do I not need ear protection (seriously), but there is absolutely no sense that the piece might get yanked or pushed from my grasp.
The chips come off cleanly sheared, not chopped, but sheared.
The bit is so well balanced that I can spin it a lot faster than other panel raising bits I own and not burn.
And the finish. The Finish is exceptional~!! That high shear angle of the cutters leaves no chatter, no cutter marks, and slices the fussy end grain like it was side grain.
It’s 3.375” diameter but I could spin this bit in a hand held if I wanted, it’s that well engineered.
This is going to be my go to panel raiser until I get another pattern of Whiteside panel raiser.
