I have a worksharp 3000. {review of worksharp 3000} I use it every time I am in the shop. It is great for touch-up on a chisel and your right back to work. Because I hone more than anything else, I was in need to replace my 1000 and 3600 grits. If you get the replacements from Worksharp it can get pricey. The 1000 is a dollar and the 3600 is about five bucks. So I found DMT’s Magna-Disc Sharpening System for about 50 bucks from amazon. I received it and followed the directions in the box. Not a big problem to set up. I had just purchased a set of footprint chisels so I was up for a good test. I used the standard set of grits before honing then gave the DMT system a shot. I was impressed. The honing time was cut buy a forth. The blades were not as hot as they would have been using sandpaper. I was using a large piece of leather on the worksharp for stropping. Now The system uses a materiel disk with 3 micron paste. And man what a mirror finish it left. Now DMT says that the DMT’s Magna-Disc Sharpening System will last 50 or more times as long as standard paper. If it does I will have saved a good bit of money. The test of time will show.
