Opinions regarding finishing process

So I’ve been making these boxes for my boss for PV’s (personal vaporizers).. Imagine e-cigs that look like mini light sabers and you get the idea.. They’re constructed from a solid piece of 6”x4”x2” mahogany, split down the middle and then 1 1/4” holes hogged down through the sides (to hold the PV). Then I’ve glued bocote end caps on and made it all nice and pretty.

I’m up to 2 coats of danish oil and have a really nice color. My question is.. should I throw down a couple coats of poly and then some wax? Or should I just wax it. The latter was my first inclination, but the PVs could leak or cause condensation on the inside.. as well as the waxing could leave some residue in the open grain. I’m definitely leaning towards putting some poly down first..

Thoughts? Alternatives?

My deadline is Sunday night, so I’ve only got a few more days to work on this..

Thanks :D
