It all started with the purchase of a stanley #48, the tongue and groove plane. I saw it on Roy Underhills show the WoodWright. So it is really his fault. Anyway I have slowly and sometimes quickly started accumulating hand tools. So now its time to use them, I chose to make a table out of Pine for a friend. Pine is soft and should be fairly forgiving of mistakes or improper techniques.
This is only the beginning, I figure if I can get comfortable with the hand tools, then future projects where a mix of power and hand tools will be far more efficient and higher quality.
So I start with the legs, crosscutting to length, and then ripping to width. Now I realize I need to get some saws sharpened, and thats where they are now until wednesday when I pick them up. So now I need to cut a rabbet into half of the legs First I ripped a kerf to establish the the edge of my rabbet. 
I am using my 192 rabbet plane from stanley, (estate sale find $10). It has a depth stop. Next I need to chisel out the Mortises ( half Mortises? (you will see what I am doing later on)) 
Now I need to smooth and even out my mortises, time to use the Stanley 71 I got myself for Christmas, (part of my Wifes ruse to keep me suprised for my actual present).
So I put 2 half mortises together together and clamp them to the table and run that plane back and forth until everything is clean and smooth. Now I can glue the legs together, I just put 1 straight peice into the rabbet and clamp it at 90 degrees, easier to say than to do it, but not bad.
I would like to say Hand tools are a lot of work, I really didn’t get that much done, but I feel like I really worked. Time to go watch Roy, next installment should be tomorrow, the 48 and the top.
