My Grandfathers Woodworking cont... #2: More On MY Grandfather

My grandfather was the son of German immigrants. He lived in Dover Ohio where he worked in a steel mill. He was friends with Mooney Warther another master craftsman in his own right. If you are ever in Dover check out Warthers museum or Google it.

Most of my grandfather?s work was done before I was born (born in 1957) during the 30s and 40s. When ivory became scarce he and Mooney would go to pool halls to get the old cue balls for the ivory. The type of work he did seems to be a thing of the past, as I have not seen anything like this anywhere. I hope that someone is still doing work like this.

Even though he died in the early 70s I never got to see him work. He stopped doing any kind of woodworking before I was born. He retired from the mill when he was 65, drove to my mothers, handed her the keys to his car and said ?if I ever need to go anywhere I?ll call you?, and never drove again.

Here are some pictures of a couple pieces that were turned on the lathe that grandpa built.

The table top, the glass is stuck to the table top so i could not remove it for a better picture.

Some close up detail. The lighting screwed up the color
