Woodworkers are tough, handsome, manly men. We make things with our hands, turn trees into dust and pee standing up (out the back door of the workshop). Blacksmithing seems like a natural next step for a woodworker to take. If we can rip wood, we can hammer iron, right?
My great grandfather’s anvil just made it’s way into my shop. (Actually i busted my gut carrying it’s awkwardly balanced 150 pounds from my truck into the house and onto the kitchen counter for inspection. As you can imagine, the missus had no sympathy for my back and immediately made me carry it out of her kitchen and into my shop.) It’s a very old anvil, I am researching it, but I think it dates to about the 1820’s. And it’s been WELL used. It seems right that I do some hammering on the sucker!
So, all you good people out in Lumber Jock’s Land… Do you do any smithing? Have you ever wanted to?
Any comments or smart “you-know-what” answers would be appreciated!
