Still on my clock making kick. I had some nice looking maple lying around, so I decided to turn it into 12 clocks. 4 of them are identical to my recently posted small oak clocks. The other 8 are small pendulum clocks – 4 are 12” tall, and 4 are 10” tall. On the 10” variety, I tried a couple different designs. A bit tricky fitting a pendulum in such a small body. Next time, I’ll change the design to simplify the back cover. It was far too time consuming, and I’m not that happy with the fit.
For the pendulum bobs, I covered the stock brass ones with a thin copper sheet, then heat treated to get the color I wanted. Not a great match to the dials, but much better than the brass.
Finish is a shellac seal coat, gel stain, and 2 coats of wipe on urethane. Maple is definitely trickier to finish than the oak I’ve been using.
