Yesterday I bought a Powermatic Model 60B 8” jointer.
It was build in May 1974 ( which I guess makes it older than most LJ members) but it seems to be in excellent condition.
Everything is straight and flat as it should be and there is no vibration.
The one thing i really do not like on the jointer is the blades protector. It is the usual “pork chop or kidney” style but it is articulated from the side of the machine. In general I already do not care for this style of protector, I prefer the European style but this on is truly awkward and terrible to use.
I called Powermatic yesterday and the person I talked to told me that some owners were able to mount the new style protector on older machines.
Did you had any successful experience with that?
Thank you for reading.
Bert
PS: i saw on E-bay that a spiral head is available for this jointer. I would be interested to purchase one as it is easier and cheaper to replace only one cutter than the whole knife.
