SCHOTT Solar PV, Inc. and Consolidated Solar Technologies Inaugurate Photovoltaic Solar Installation at Belen High School

BELEN, N.M., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- SCHOTT Solar PV, Inc. (SCHOTT Solar) and Consolidated Solar Technologies (CST) today inaugurated a 50kW photovoltaic (PV) solar power system at Belen High School. The system was funded through a grant system initiated last year by Governor Bill Richardson using funds from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Belen is one of 15 school districts in the state to be selected through the competitive grant system. The school district is developing a solar technology curriculum around the system that integrates science, business, math and social sciences. Consolidated Solar Technologies, of Albuquerque, installed the 20,000 square foot system using SCHOTT POLY solar modules.

The system is projected to yield an energy savings to the school of more than $20,000 annually.

"Belen Schools focused on choosing a respected partner and high-quality solar components," said Patricia Rael, Superintendent of Belen Schools. "Choosing Consolidated Solar Technologies for the design and construction of our system and using SCHOTT solar panels allowed us to do both, while helping to create jobs in New Mexico."

SCHOTT Solar, of Albuquerque, employs more than 300 local workers and is a growing economic driver of New Mexico's solar industry ecosystem.

"SCHOTT Solar is contributing to the growth of a strong solar industry in Albuquerque and across the nation with our proven, reliable modules," said Tom Hecht, President and Chief Sales Officer of SCHOTT Solar PV, Inc.  "We're proud to partner with CST and work with New Mexico's schools to save them money and support their environmental stewardship. It's a winning formula for utilizing New Mexico's abundant sunshine to create both clean energy and local jobs."

"SCHOTT has been a consistently responsive partner, allowing us to meet the needs of Belen Schools," said Mike Mattioli, managing director of CST. "With their help, Consolidated Solar Technologies was able to develop a high-quality system and deliver ahead of schedule. The result is that Belen High School is now taking advantage of New Mexico's sunshine to generate clean renewable energy."
