Model Equipment Trailer #1: Project for my Father inlaw

I have decided to build a model equipment trailer for my Father In-law. He is always such a great help for me around the house with projects and I wanted to make something for him to show my thanks. Since he has a small excavation contracting business so I thought some wood models would be nice. I found the plans by D.B. Gatto and decided on the flatbed trailer and backhoe. I have started the trailer and hope to have it finished in a couple of weeks and then move on to the backhoe. The plan is to be able to give it to him this year for his birthday.

Most of the work has been done on the bandsaw and using my bench top sanders.

Here is a picture of the frame and springs.

This is the trailer bed, All of the deck boards were ripped on the bandsaw then run through the planner to cleanup and bring down to final thickness.

Here is the frame, spring, and bed together. Still some sanding and cleanup to do before final assembly.

Now I have to build the wheels, ramps, and finish the detail pieces.

I will keep this updated as I progress with the project. Hope you enjoy the picts and project. Your feedback or suggestions if you have done these projects in the past are welcome.

Thanks for looking.
Mat
