Traditional Woodworker chisels

Traditional Woodworker chisels

I purchased 6 chisels of this set. I was looking for a set of chisels that were in inches and not metric conversion like most of the chisels out there. My current set of Marples/Irwin/blue handled chisels have been good to me but are not real hard and keeping them sharp has been an issue. So, I bought the 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8” chisels since these were the sizes that I will use the most. The way they are labeled is also nice and readable.

These chisels, like all the rest, come with a lacquered finish that has to be removed. These chisels have the edges buffed so there were no sharp edges and corners that can cut your hands when holding them. The backs required flattening and there was a really fine micro bevel on the backs that had to be removed. I changed the front chisel angle about 2 degrees, for my liking and the hardness of these chisels proved themselves. Using water stones, the process of cleaning the edges to the way I like them with a mirror finish, takes a good while but when I was done, the tests were good. In pieces of red maple, poplar, and ash (in grains that I have gotten a lot of tear out in the middle) the cuts were clean.

The prices were competitive and having more sizes in the smaller ranges makes it nice for what I do.

For me, this was a good purchase.
