This secretary desk came to me with severe damage to the top. The curved molding was in a bag along with hundreds of pieces of the scroll work. The original scroll work was 3/8 inch thick. The first step was to thickness sand a panel of 3/8 baltic birch plywood to the appropriate thickness to prepare for gluing mahogany veneer to each side. Fortunately I had enough pieces of the broken scroll work to replicate about 80% of the pattern. The remainder was drawn in freehand. After the pierced scrolling was completed it was installed in a groove along the top and glued to the back of the curved molding.
