Hexagon Box in Two-color concept

Hexagon Box in Two-color concept

Actually, I have already made the part 2 of the Two tone hexabox but when I was about to post it, I was out from the server. The internet just close and I could not recover what I have done. I will PM Martin for that if he could recover back and post it as blog… If not sorry. I don’t want to retype again. It was really good blog because it contains a lot of information the same as the part 1.

Well, here is the final product. A weave of Narra and white Lauan. The lid sits on the beveled top. It is an all around box. The bottom is also the same at the top. The design is matching in all side and top ande lower bottom. If you stare on it, you will notice that it is simply the cubic illussion of a tumbling block. The magic is arranging the stripes accordingly to its desired straightness counting 3 stripes interlacing with each other.

There are a lot of things I learned on this project. The use of a portable sander, router, hand cutting by saw, remembering the miterbox. The inavailability of 60 degree chamferring router bit was replaced by cutting it by 45 deg bit then caulk the spaces created on it… (regret that I lost the part 2 of my blog which this was explained thoroughly with pictures. This is shown in Photo 5.

The method of mitering at hexagon box is quite different from a square box… need to stop at the corner point. Incorporating the bevel on the top and bottom requires precise cutting and priorities on what is first to cut. One big step wrong will ruin the whole job. I was only lucky in doing this.

So I hope you enjoy this and also the blog.

Thanks,
