I just recently picked up 2002 model Craftsman Jointer from a fellow woodworker in town. ($50, and it looked brand new!).
I had been collecting reclaimed wood wherever I could and had picked up some pallets among other pieces. All of the wood for the table was taken from ONE pallet. The top is made of the slats, and the rest is from the three 2×4’s. Now my wife will appreciate all the wood I pick up and collect! :)
Reclaimed wood is a great way to keep it out of the landfill and into something nice. I have found that many pieces of reclaimed furniture sell for more than new wood. Among my peers (20-30’s) there is a big resurgence of re-use/green/sustainable/simple. Plus the reclaimed wood has tons of character and probably a neat story.
Here’s to a fun afternoon in the shop AND keeping wood out of landfills.
