Besides a little bit of practice turnings, this is my first real turning. Hard maple 2×2’ish square by approx 12” length.
Turned on my little mastercraft lathe with the supplied tools. Less than ideal, but…anyways, it should be useful with my chisels. Plus, it was good quality time at the lathe! I had a couple of catches with the skew chisel toward the end, which kinda sucks…but that’s part of the learning process I guess. It should still go BANG when I hit my chisels with it though.
I couldn’t find my old guitar strings either to do the 3 marks, so I used the tip of the skew chisel.
I put a coat of danish oil on it so far. I’m debating making a cherry one for my brother in law!
