Around The Coffeepot Ramblings #25: What A Slob

Ok, the comments on a recent blog of mine turned to the discussion of all the dust around my scroll saw. There has been a few Lumberjocks that have visited my shop. They can tell you that my shop was clean when they came. I got lucky. I usually try to clean it pretty good between projects, but while I’m in the middle of a project, it gets pretty messy.
Anyway, I said I had to show you all where the real mess was. The scroll saw dust is the least of my cleaniness problems.

Here is where I throw all the small cutouts from scrolling. As you can see, it has gotten a little out of hand, or shall I say, out of bucket. I’ve been sort of just trying to keep them into a neat mess until I can get around to doing something with it all. I’m out of buckets, so that neat mess has now almost hidden the base of the drill press.

Since this current project has been producing a lot of longer small stuff, and my neat mess over by the scroll saw has gotten out of hand, now I’ve started throwing some of it under the band saw.

Things are now starting to pile up behind the miter saw. Also of note in this photo is the four buckets under the miter saw station. These four buckets contain small mahogany cutoffs. Some of them date back to over a year ago. I love mahogany and have a habit of holding on to even small pieces. When this started, there was only one bucket. I vowed that if it ever got full I would find someone who could use them. Well, I have yet to find anyone else who wants them and I just can’t bring myself to throw away such pretty wood. So it’s now grown to four buckets.
These buckets are where I go when I need something like scrap blocks to protect surfaces when doing glue ups. You know things are getting bad when I’m actually using mahogany for glue up blocks. I need someone who has a use for some of this. Some of it’s big enough for pen blanks or small carvings.
I was going to show a few more photos, but some of the others I took I’m afraid that if I show people may start shipping brooms and dust pans to me out of pity.
