Hat and coat racks such as this are not for sale through any furniture outlets in our city of 6 million—at least not the kind you’d want.
The plank used for this was found on a weekend outing in Hunan’s countryside. The farmer was so polite I had to insist on paying him something for the 4 pieces of unidentifiable hardwood. Even after cleaning it up and planing it, I still cannot confidently say what this beautiful red-streaked piece is. I welcome any guesses.
The coat rack was sized for a match with the previously built shoe rack.
